How It Works
The HONNING PLUS® PCR method for determining the botanical origin of honey is based on the detection and quantification of specific DNA from target plant species present in the honey, using real-time PCR technology (the same used for COVID detection).
The detected DNA is correlated with the percentage of pollen. In this way, it is possible to determine whether a honey is monofloral for a specific species. This technique is currently used to certify Manuka honey in New Zealand.
